I thought I might share a quick story about these images - they have been sat in a folder on my laptop since late 2007, along with quite a few others from the same shoot and I never posted them anywhere until now.
It was a very weird shoot for me in which the photographer pushed me into shooting angles and poses that I was not comfortable with (crotch shots etc). Back in 2007 I was a lot less confident than I am now and after still being pushed, after saying I’d rather not, I just begrudgingly went along with it (*facepalm*). I can only look back and berate myself and consider it a lesson learned. Don’t ever let people make you feel like you have to shoot something you’re not happy with.
Anyhoo, as a result I look horribly uncomfortable in 95% of the images and that combined with the fact I didn’t really want to promote the photographer made me just put the folder in my archives and never look at it again.
Fast forward to this week and I was looking for images I’d shot of this beautiful, one of a kind hand-painted torsolette from High Gloss Dolls. I realised this was one of the only times I’d shot it and ended up going back through the pics and found a couple I liked. It’s odd for me to see myself in images where I look so unsure of myself, I kinda like the slightly what-am-I-doing face that would be a challenge for me to replicate if I was intending it!
I still may not have posted them but it turns out the photographer is no longer shooting and has disappeared from the internet for several years now, and their site now forwards to some religious teaching site O_o
/edit. I have really improved my skill at eyebrow-plucking since then. eep.
I’m trying to get back into doing ‘proper’ blog posts.. I used to keep an in-depth blog about everything that I was up to but Facebook, Twitter et al have made me a bit lazy; it’s so much easier just to instantly upload pics while I’m travelling, with the promise to myself that I’ll do the accompanying blog later the same day! But this year has been particularly busy for me (in a good way!) and the blog posts got a bit left behind. I suspect I’m never going to catch up on the backlog of what I’ve already done the past few months but I’m going to make a better effort from now on for new and current things! :)
So, I just got back from 3 weeks of shooting pretty much every day in New York and Florida (which does actually merit a blog entry of it’s own, it was pretty eventful! I’ll get on that soon!). I wasn’t even back in LA for one day before I was whisked off for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, with only a couple of days to recover from that before it was back to work!
Today saw me shooting 8 or 9 outfits for Westward Bound’s new collection with Allan Amato. LA is in a heatwave right now so latex is not exactly the easiest of things to be wearing, especially in our studio, where even the new A/C unit was struggling to keep the room at a bearable temperature. I pretty much had to give up on wiping away the sweat that kept dripping down my legs ><. Luckily/miraculously for me, I never seem to get much sweat/shine on my face even when the rest of my body is dripping, so I managed to not look half as uncomfortable as I felt in the photos!
The collection is being released around September (I think), but for now here are a couple of behind-the-scenes snapshots - another thing that I’m trying to remember to do more of! :)
